Days

On the 22nd and 23rd of May we went to Break Free, a Christian rehabilitation centre. We went there to help them finishing building a dorm and a church. Going there I didn’t really know what to expect regarding the type of work I was about to do. I was put in the woodcutting team where we had to carry, measure and cut all the wood for the church. Simon, Khayzek and Elrika were in my team and they were such a great team.

At first Simon measure the first order of wood and I thought to myself: ‘That’s a lot of responsibility, I don’t want to do that.’ Next minute I found myself being the one measuring all the rest of the wood along with Khayzek. After a while I actually really enjoyed measuring the wood and figuring out ways to utilise as much wood as possible. It was great fun.

Simon was a great addition to the team, he even fed us Marie Biscuits and paint covered marshmallows as we worked.

On the second day the dynamic of the cutting was a bit different. At some point in the afternoon we had more wood to cut than we could keep up with, but because of the nature of our team and the good flow we had everything went so well and it was such great fun. It was wonderful to me to work alongside new people and work well with them. We had many moments of laughter and I really experienced the anointing of God on our work which really blessed me to be a part of that.

I actually didn’t want to go home on the second day because measuring the wood and working well with my team got to be so fun. I look forward to having more opportunities to work hard but also have moments like these in the future.
